Statement of Purpose
The International Flag and Native American Flag Showcases in the R.C. Cook University Union serve as a beacon of our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment at The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi. As part of our mission to provide a gathering place that unifies our diverse community, these showcases highlight our intention to promote a sense of belonging among all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.
By proudly displaying these flags, we aim to celebrate and honor the rich cultural heritage of our community members while fostering an environment that promotes understanding and respect for all identities. The showcases serve as a reminder of the Union鈥檚 commitment to advocating for inclusivity, equity, and diversity.
The Union strives to be the heart of the campus community by creating a welcoming environment that encourages all individuals to connect and engage with one another. Our facilities and services bring the campus and its guests together through a variety of programs and events, providing opportunities to learn from and appreciate one another's unique perspectives.
In promoting a safe learning environment, the Union recognizes the importance of creating an inclusive gathering place where 草榴社区 Miss students, faculty, and staff can connect with one another. Through initiatives such as the International Flag and Native American Flag Showcases, we hope to contribute to the development of a campus culture that fosters mutual respect, empathy, and global citizenship.
International Flag Showcase
The flags are a representation of the countries of origin of the student body of The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi. The flags are updated each academic year during the fall semester to reflect the most up-to-date communities. The Office of Institutional Research provides the data from students' profiles. Currently there are 86 countries represented. The Union Department maintains the showcase.

Native American Flag Showcase
The flags are a representation of tribal nations of origin among the student body of The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi. The flags are updated each academic year during the fall semester to reflect the most up-to-date communities. The Center for American Indian Research and Studies (CAIRS) provides the data. Currently there are 8 tribal nations represented. The Union Department maintains the showcase.

Learning Outcomes
After interacting with the flag showcases, students will:
- Feel a stronger appreciation for the value of differences among people, customs, and viewpoints.
- Be able to name two countries they discovered as a result of interacting with the International Flag Showcase.
- Be able to name one tribal nation they discovered as a result of interacting with the Native American Flag Showcase.
