What is Kinesiotherapy?

Kinesiotherapy (KT) is where scientifically based exercise principles meet therapeutic rehabilitation, empowering individuals to unlock their full functional potential! As a Kinesiotherapist (KT), you'll do more than help people recover鈥攜ou will be able to coach them in rebuilding their physical strength and endurance, and motivate them in improving their mental strength, all that while promoting independence through therapeutic exercise and education. By combining therapy with health coaching, KTs leverage movement to promote faster recovery and enhance well-being, making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of those they serve.

Our Program

Our KT program is one of the most exciting on campus, offering two semesters of real-world mentored clinical internships. This hands-on experience in medical settings gives you the chance to work directly with patients, ensuring you're prepared for a strong start in your career. Whether you plan to enter the workforce right after graduation or pursue other allied health careers, KT sets you up for success.

Requirements:

• • • Maintain a 2.5 GPA
    • 3.0 GPA in all therapy courses
    • Two semesters of clinical internships

Course work:

As a Kinesiotherapy (KT) student, you'll dive into dynamic courses like anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, discovering how the body moves and heals. You鈥檒l also explore health coaching and psychology, gaining the skills to inspire and support clients throughout their recovery journey. From day one, you'll master essential clinical techniques such as manual muscle testing, goniometric measurement, and therapeutic exercise application. Additionally, you'll learn how to design and implement personalized therapeutic exercise programs to help individuals recover from or adapt to injuries and illnesses.

Internship:

All these exciting skills are put to the test with two semesters of hands-on clinical internships in the Kinesiotherapy program, allowing you to practice in real healthcare settings and apply your classroom knowledge. One of these semesters will involve working alongside a Registered Kinesiotherapist, giving you the chance to experience the profession in action and gain invaluable insights. You'll be ready to make a difference right out of the gate, confidently stepping into your career!

What Can I Do With a Degree in Kinesiotherapy?

A degree in Kinesiotherapy opens doors to exciting careers where you can immediately start working as a Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, wellness facilities, or at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC). It also provides a strong foundation for many advanced degrees in different allied healthcare fields, including but not limited to athletic training, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. The Kinesiotherapy program at The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs () upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Kinesiotherapy Programs.

The Kinesiotherapy Program at The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi has been accredited since 2000 and stands as the sole Kinesiotherapy program available in the southeastern region of the United States.
