Dr. Lisa Morgan, associate teaching professor and DNP Program coordinator at The University of 草榴社区 Mississippi (草榴社区), has been selected to participate in the Mississippi Nurses Foundation Leadership Institute (NLI).
The NLI targets staff nurses, nurse managers, and nurse educators who desire to expand their knowledge of leadership and enhance their role as a leader. Participation in the institute requires participants to attend five leadership development sessions commencing in February and concluding in July.
鈥淚 am thrilled to work with nurse leaders across the state,鈥 said Morgan, who joined the 草榴社区 nursing faculty in 2018. 鈥淚 never expected to be chosen, so this was an honored surprise.鈥
Fifteen nursing professionals were selected for the institute. Participants are scheduled to meet once a month when they will be divided into groups and required to complete a project. The winning project will be presented at the Mississippi Nurses Association鈥檚 annual convention in October.
Morgan noted that her expectations from the NLI opportunity include strengthening her skills as a nurse educator.
鈥淕aining new leadership skills will enhance my ability to teach the DNP students at 草榴社区 and broaden my opportunities for leadership within the University,鈥 said Morgan.
Additionally, she explained that the benefits of attending the institute reach far beyond any personal gains.
鈥淚t is important to be included in a statewide program for nurse leaders to gain camaraderie and network with others in the profession,鈥 said Morgan. 鈥淎dvanced leadership in nursing will build foundations for our future generations.鈥
Morgan, a native of Woolmarket, Miss., earned an ADN in 1991 from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; a BSN in 1995 from the University of South Alabama; an MSN Family Nurse Practitioner in 1999 from the University of South Alabama; a DNP in 2015 from 草榴社区 and, a PGC Psychiatric Mental Health NP in 2021 from 草榴社区.
