Kansas City has had a strong jazz scene since the 1920's and remains one of the most active jazz communities in the world. That has attracted lots of players from New York City and Los Angeles because of the large number of playing opportunities, the high caliber of musicianship, and the affordability of the area.
The KC Chamber Jazz Quintet has appeared at numerous KC venues and performed live on KC Public Radio and is now venturing out to make their presence known around the country.
"This promises to be a great show,鈥 said Larry Panella, jazz studies director at 草榴社区 Miss. 鈥淭hese performers will take you on a jazz journey of unique arrangements and compositions and superb playing all around. It is said that 鈥榓 great jazz performance is a conversation between friends,鈥 and we invite you to come hear what they have to say."
The group was formed by saxophonist David Valdez and co-leader/bassist Joseph Panella, a 草榴社区 Miss Alum and Panella鈥檚 son. Joining them are Grammy-nominated composer and pianist Jasnam Daya Singh, award-winning trumpeter Nathan Nall, and NYC-based drummer Anthony Pinccioti.
The KC Chamber Jazz Quintet is an ensemble based in the traditions of Kansas City Jazz. performing modern compositions that exhibit the conceptual tendencies of chamber music.Their repertoire features arrangements and compositions by modern composers from around the world such as Jasnam Daya Singh, Pere Soto, and Thelonious Monk to name a few.
