All's Fair (Use) in Love and War (and Teaching?): Cautions and Considerations for Using Copyrighted Materials in the Classroom

This session will provide faculty with a series of best practices for using copyrighted materials in educational settings without violating US Copyright Law. In particular, the session will highlight the provision in Copyright Law known as Fair Use, particularly how Fair Use works and how faculty can use it to their advantage in the classroom. Attendees will leave with best practices for incorporating copyrighted works into their courses, whether they teach via a face-to-face or online setting.

"What Did They Just Say?": Introducing Video Transcription for Students with Accommodations

With full implementation beginning in Fall 2024, SAS introduces new options for ensuring equal access to video content. This session aims to introduce new offerings for video accessibility, explore the new 3Play platform and how to navigate throughout it, and equip instructors and staff with new tools like full transcripts and video description to enhance accessible instruction for all students.

Springboard Student Presentations

In Springboard student presentations, only the first student on the team analyzes the assigned textual material. The other team members 'Springboard' from the main themes of the text to develop their own analysis and variation of the theme. Students support their own themes with references identified on the last slide.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø Student Focus Group Data Fall 2021-Fall 2023

Returning to in person instruction in Fall 2021 was challenging for faculty, staff, and students especially because of the necessity of emergency remote instruction the year prior. In this session I continue presenting ²ÝÁñÉçÇø focus group data of mostly first year students beginning Fall 21 through Fall 23. Topics originally included mental health, transitions back to face-to-face instruction, and peer mentoring, however later, online classes and class preparation topics, were added. Findings to date will be shared and discussed.
