Kennard Scholar

BSBA marketing, political science minor, 2020
Natchez, Mississippi

What type of career have you pursued and want to achieve in the future?

Law school

To me, Clyde Kennard represented the impossible that can be achievable. He took a bold stand against institutional racism, and, because he did, I was able to attend ²ÝÁñÉçÇø.

How did receiving the Clyde Kennard scholarship impact you?

To me, Clyde Kennard represented the impossible that can be achievable. He took a bold stand against institutional racism, and, because he did, I was able to attend ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. I participated in many programs while there, but none as distinguishable as the Kennard Scholars Program. This particular program invests in the lives of African American scholars and leaders, with the intent to prepare them for a successful future while appreciating and recognizing their culture. That’s astounding! I appreciated being at the university as a Kennard scholar where my culture and value was recognized.

How do/did your academic pursuits or journey honor Kennard’s legacy?

I was able to develop and even network with eleven people of color, while investing in the university through various campus organizations.
